MELTED ON THE TONGUE

She gave me a tiny carton,
five chocolates in a row
from all around the world.

I nibbled through the box
for a month, a sliver at a time --
Sumatra, Ghana...

the last was Madagascar, dark
and bitter, island holding lemurs
and bottle-trees. It tasted good,
and now it's gone.
